Carina has joined the USNAP Alliance in order to utilize the CTA-2045 standard grid protocol with its WISE™ product for controlling water heaters. As utilities move to the next generation of water heaters, vendors need this standard protocol to communicate and control other appliances in the house. Carina needs to add some registers to the standard in order to optimize the performance of its WISE product and has enlisted several water heater manufacturers to assist Carina in the hardware and software design.

USNAP - The term USNAP is an acronym for Universal Smart Network Access Port, a simple, cost effective solution that enables any HAN (Home Area Network) or DR (Demand Response) standard, present and future, to communicate with utility systems, energy gateways or other devices within the home. By providing industry with a protocol independent modular communication interface (MCI), it is possible for manufacturers to produce intelligent and energy aware consumer products that are able to interact with each other as well as the Smart Grid.

Jim was presenting data from the Carina WISE pilot at Central Electric Cooperative conducted by NCEMC. The majority of the North Carolina co-ops were in attendance as well as many from South Carolina. It was a great opportunity to show the value proposition of the WISE intelligent controller for all the co-ops in attendance.

Huntsvile, AL - Carina joins PLMA as an advisory member. Carina will sit on the board of PLMA and attend its semiannual conferences. Clint Caudle will serve on the PLMA board representing Carina’s WISE technology with utilities, consultants, and manufacturers across the country. Huntsvile, AL - NCEMC and Carina Technology, Inc. began a small water heater pilot to determine the benefits of shifting load out of the peak demand and utilizing the Carina WISE™ unit for frequency regulation. This order will allow BTES to cover the majority of their residential customers with a fiber collar and a large percentage of the customers with the WISE (water heater controller) switch. Huntsville, AL - BTES orders 10,000 CPMDS and 5,000 WISE switches With the release of the 2nd Generation CPMD and WISE2, BTES has added additional collars and switches to be deployed over the next 12-18 months. BTES also rolled out the new Command Center software that will operate both of the products. BTES continues to be on the forefront of advanced technology with their fiber deployment and with the intelligent water heater controller. Huntsville, AL - The Lincoln Mill and Mill Village Historic District is a historic district in Huntsville, Alabama. Opened in 1900, it quickly grew to be Huntsville's largest cotton mill in the first quarter of the 20th century. After closing in 1955, the mills were converted to office space that was used by the U.S. space program. Two of the older production buildings burned in 1980, but one main building and numerous houses built for workers remain. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
